Organization .101

Organization 101? Nope. I'm not ready for that yet. This is Organization .101. Remedial Organization. The pre-requisite for getting into Organization School.

Several people have mentioned that it seems that I can't possibly have enough trash in my house to warrant the use of a dumpster. But I've finally learned an important lesson:

You can't organize clutter.

"What IS clutter?" you may ask. Finally, I've learned what it is.

It's stuff like this:

Or this:

This stuff is of no value whatsoever. But it's been occupying valuable space in my home and in my brain.

No longer. This stuff is in the dumpster now. Once Deborah the Dumpster is full, THEN I'll be ready for Organization 101.

I'm joining the CSI girls for the Organization Challenge!

  1. Well that pic of Deborah just makes me smile. We had her twin here when we moved & yes, it was just our junk, no major remodel.
It has been 12 yrs. & we could use her again... In fact on my husband's wish list also... :)

  3. AMEN!!! A few months ago, I about had a nervous breakdown after opening the cabinet under my bathroom sink. SO much junk!!! I went through and tossed old make-up, put Clinique *free gift* bags in a donate pile and cleared it out. I have one small bin in there now with some extra make-up and a few samples that I know I will use. (Ie. I wasn't ever using the moisturizer---I had like 20 bottles of it!) I felt so much better afterwards. :)

  4. Can I bring my baskets full of random Happy Meal toys and little "treasures" that have been piling up from my kids? :-) I have to wait until they are in bed and do a covert operation of sneaking them into the trash or donation bags!
Oh, and I thought of you this week when I corrected a word in a sentence! :-)

  5. Wow! I'm impressed that you are going to declutter that much. I might even be impressed that you have that much clutter. After cleaning out two Depression era grandmothers' homes who kept EVERYthing I'm much more willing to throw things away!

  6. I'm inspired!! I have drawer filled with old make up and samples and kitchen cabinets filled with food we will never eat! I don't think I need a dumpster...well not until I start to really look!

  12. There must be some serious decluttering going on at your house to need a dumpster!

I am pretty good at decluttering to a point. I keep a lot that I shouldn't "just in case."

  14. I hate clutter and it's a neverending battle for me....EVEN though I don't buy crap I don't need anymore. I still have more of it than I know what to do with! Cute post! Nice to "meet" you!

  15. Two questions. 1) Can I come dumpster dive? and 2) Can I bring my own junk to help fill her up?

  18. Okay, well, if we are going with that definition of clutter, Richella, then I have a lot of clutter! : ) I thought I had our container cabinet all sorted out and organized {hubby and son destroyed that and chaos reigns again} and I'm finding lids with no bowls and vice versa. I'm ready to just toss all of them. I have been pretty good about my make-up, though. I do need to go through the 10 face washes I have and toss some of those.

  19. Man, I could have really used Debbie this weekend! I've been pitching stuff left and right! I've filled my car twice with stuff for Goodwill! Isn't it amazing how much junk we can accumulate before we notice it?!
