Kids grow up--but not completely

Yesterday, June 17, was my middle son's 19th birthday.  In one more year I'll have two kids in their 20's.

And last week my youngest son got his driver's permit.  Which means that in one more year I'll have two kids in their 20's and my youngest kid--my baby!--will be driving.

So imagine how happy it made me to come into the kitchen and discover this treasure on my windowsill:

Look closely:

Yes, it's dead.  One of the boys found it on the porch and thought I'd like to admire it.  He was right, of course.

Mostly, I'm glad to know that my kids may seem grown up--but they still like to share their treasures with their mom!

Have your kids shared any treasures with you lately?

  1. Oh that so reminds me of the "treasures" my kids use to bring me. Fun memories. Hugs, Marty

  2. LOL--the kind of treasures that are shared with me are pretty rocks or stickers or something. Boys and girls are so different! :)

  4. My kids share their kids with me every week and those little grandkids bring me so many treasures. The one year old gave me a piece of paper she'd chewed off a book just yesterday. The 4, 5 and 6 year olds bring me rocks, wildflowers, and pinecones every week. I can't stand to toss any of them and my house is full of treasure.

  5. Noah is not old enough to share her treasures yet but I look forward to it someday. I'm sure little gifts like that are the great rewards of motherhood.

  6. Precious! That is the sort of thing that tugs on my heartstrings for sure. My youngest loves to bring me flowers...of the clover variety (since that's about the only sort that grows in our yard.) And I proudly display them in a bud vase, wilty and all. : )

  7. So sweet! My kids bring me rocks, which is much better than the used band-aids my oldest used to bring home from the school playground. ICK!

  8. This made me laugh as just last night my almost 18 year old found a snake outside & tried putting it into a hamster cage to show me!! Thankfully, the snake slithered out of the cage & got away :) Another time one of my boys brought a live lizard into the house & lost it! We never did find it, I keep telling myself it found it's way back outside :) Oh the joys of boys!

  9. How sweet! And slightly gross, which is what makes this so fun. My daughters get so excited to find dandelions near the sidewalk when we're out for a stroller walk. I try to keep them in a water cup for a day just to show them how much I appreciate their affection. Dandelions, as you know, don't do so well within an hour of being picked. I try not to let the girls see me toss them in the garbage after a while, which is where all dandelions eventually must go!

  10. Well, it's better than a dead rat on the porch (which my cat used to bring me as a "gift"). Those big boys are always little boys to their Mom! xo Diana

  11. now even i don't mind a dragonfly :) there are many others i would not want to see on my window sill!!

the time is just zipping right along...i am feeling it!! but along with wishing i had a pause button, the growing up makes me excited too... so i guess i'll just stick with the plan :)

  12. Last week my 18 yr old son and I drove to the college he is entering this fall (1 hour drive) we don't get a lot of one on one time much anymore because of our schedules. He had recently returned from his Senior Beach Trip. He shared with me the day by day events that took place that week. Some things I could have not been told but that drive with just me and my baby talking and laughing and sharing was priceless to me! I am going to miss him do much!
