Grace at Home No. 492

Last Thursday morning, I was in the Surgical Waiting Room at Duke Hospital. My son had surgery on Thursday and is now at home with his dad and me. His surgeon was pleased with the way the procedure went, but my son is still in a lot of pain.

If you've ever cared for a family member in the days immediately after a major surgery, you know that it's often a one-step-forward-two-steps-back progress. We're praying that we're about to turn the corner and experience two-steps-forward-one-step-back progress.

I posted this on Instagram, mostly because I needed it:

I think we often forget this. We want to be strong for our loved ones, but we must have rest in order to be strong. So I'm trying to heed my own words:

Meanwhile, I know many of you are off to a great start this new year, and I'd love to know what you've been up to. So I'm glad to welcome you to the Grace at Home party, where we celebrate all the ways we make our homes places of grace and beauty.

Here at the Grace at Home party, you can link up any post you've written that demonstrates how you're filling your space with truth, goodness, and beauty. I invite you to link posts about
  • DIY projects
  • decorating
  • recipes
  • hospitality
  • homemaking tips
  • parenting
  • marriage
  • faith
  • self-care
  • soul care
Whatever you do to make your home or sphere of influence a place of grace, I'd like to hear about it. Here's what I ask of you.  Please include the permalink to your post, not your blog's home page. Please let people know that you've linked up.  No more than three posts per person, please.  Note that if you link a post here, you are giving me permission to share your post, including a photo.  And visit at least one of the other party participants--that's what really makes it a party!

You are invited to the Inlinkz link party!

  1. Richella, I am glad that your son’s surgery went well. I pray that his pain will be eased and rest for you. I know how hard taking care of someone who has had a major surgery. Take care of yourself!

  2. I am so thankful to read that your son's surgery went well. May God uphold you with His mighty hand and continue to heal your son and husband, in Jesus' name.

  3. Richella, praying for your son and for you and your husband this morning. May God strengthen and heal.

  4. Yes, please take care of yourself as you take care of your son! We often talk a good game about rest, but then feel guilty if we practice it ourselves. Hope you have no guilt as you rest. :)

  5. Praying right now for grace and space, time to heal and rest.

  6. I'm so thankful your son's surgery went well. I'm sorry he is in so much pain--I pray that dissipates quickly and he will heal well with no infections or setbacks.

I love the two memes you posted. They are both so true. I pray you can get the rest you need as you care for your loved ones.

  7. I hope your son heals quickly. Yes, please take care of yourself. You & yours are in my thoughts and prayers. 💛🙏🏼 XO_ MaryJo

  8. Richella, my positive thoughts for your son’s recovery. Having had some surgery last week and 5 days in bed, I’m so grateful for my husband’s attention: meals, meds, taking care of everything at home. Everyone needs help during a recovery period. I know your mom instincts kick in big time. Take care of all of you.

  9. So glad your son's surgery went well - sending healing vibes your way! I'm sure he's happy to have you caring for him. Thanks for hosting each week!

  10. Praying for your son and your fam as you take care of him. So thankful that he has all of you! God is good, even when it doesn't 'feel' like it! Glad you are feeling up to hosting!
