Happy birthday to me!

Yep, today is my birthday--49 and counting!

The other day my youngest son asked, "Mom, were you born when John F. Kennedy was President?"  The answer to that question is YES, I was.  Just barely.

For my birthday today, I'd like to ask you a special favor.  Would you please do something special for me for my birthday?

You see, I'm conducting some research, and I'd love to include you in that.  I know you're busy, but if you have just a minute, please, please, PLEASE leave me a comment and complete this statement:

"I wish I were more like _________________ because s/he is so ______________________."

Or if you don't really wish you were like anyone else, I'd love to know that, too!

Anyone can post a comment to this blog--you don't have to be a blogger, a registered user, or anything. Simply click the word "Comments" at the bottom of this post and follow the prompts.  If you're reading this in a reader or an email, simply click here to go directly to the post on my blog, then leave a comment.

Thank you so much for helping me to have a happy birthday!  I'm so grateful for you!!

  3. I wish I were more like Jesus. I so desire a meek and gentle spirit. I want to reach out to others more than I do...with a sincere heart of love and selflessness. (:>) Self gets in the way too often.

  6. I really wish I were more like my bestie Rebecca because she is so calm and doesn't let things get to her.

Happy Birthday Richella! You don't look like you are 49 at all! As someone in their 40's, I can appreciate how looking young at our age feels.
God bless you on your day!!

  7. Happy Happy Birthday!!!
I would love to be more like...that is really a complicated question...I would love for my body to be more like my pre-children body, I would love for my mind to be more organized like Martha (but not in the crazy compulsive, overbearing way), I really want to be more Christ-like and that is what I'm striving for, but in reality I am a perfectly imperfect human who wants to love and be loved...sooo, the long of the short of it is...I just wanna be me!

  9. Happy Birthday Richella. I'm 49 too.

I would like to be more like Mama Linda (my MIL). She has so much faith and such a positive outlook every second of the day. She is just wonderful to be around - she makes everyone feel good.

Happy Birthday Richella! I could give you lots of wishes. I wish I was more like my grandchildren. Jesus told us to be more like children and they are hungry to learn and quick to love. As I age I'm less and less those two things. I also wish I was more like our Aunt Hazel and our other aunts/grandmothers of that generation. They lived from a time of almost no technology to see men walk on the moon. Just think what we could have learned by experiencing that! And, there have been times I wished I was more like Richella when I watched her interact lovingly and with an attitude of teaching her cute little redheads. God bless on your special day!

I wish I were more like my husband. Hs is so selfless and caring. He hardly every complains and is such an encourager to me. I hope I can be all that to him.

  12. Happy Birthday, again! I wish I were more like Darlene, because she is so full of energy. Her energy is always positive, reaching out to everyone without any preconceived ideas, getting so much accomplished, reflecting a christian attitude -- always, always a breath of fresh air. I think these wishes are always for something we are lacking in our own personalities otherwise we wouldn't be yearning for something different.

  13. Happy Birthday, Beautiful! :)

There are so many amazing women I wish I were more like. But, I have to agree with Dawn...I just wish I were a better ME. Living up to the potential I have in Christ, living in the promises He has for me in Ephesians 1.

    Oh, to have that faith!

  14. Happy Birthday! for your question....I'd like to be more like Jesus, because He has a forgiving heart, He uplifts the downtrodden, and He restores lives.

  15. I hate to sound overly spiritual, but I do wish I was more like Jesus. Yes, I am becoming more like Him as I age (I'm almost not 50 anymore). Yet I've walked with him for over 30 years, and still find I'm too selfish and not as patient, loving, forgiving, discerning (as to what is really important at the moment), and secure in self identity as He is and as I would like to be.

    Happy Birthday!

  16. Happy Birthday sweet friend!!! I hope your day is filled with reminders of what a blessing you are to so many people. :-) You know, in the past I probably could have filled in those blanks with lots of names...but now, I'm just learning that God created me to be me and He loves me just as I am. And that the only person I should strive to be more like is Christ. So I guess that fills in the blank, right? :-)
    Have a wonderful day,
    Vanessa

I want to be more like Jesus, but my lazy and selfish desires get in the way. I want to be bold!

  19. I wish I was more like the person God created me to be because then I would not feel so conflicted or at odds with myself/actions at times.

  20. Happy Birthday! I always hated it when someone asks that question!! I want to be like Jesus because he always knew what to say in any circumstance! I find myself wishing I had said this or that or not knowing what to say sometimes. Hope your research project goes well!

  24. Happy Birthday, Richella! You're adorable.
Well, even though I'm fluffier than I'd like to be, I'm pretty satisfied with who I am. But I would like to be more like the woman Jesus sees me as.
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)

  26. HAppy Birthday dear one!!
Hope it's as perfect as one can be here...

In the last few years I've grown fairly content ( and dare I even say it happy) in my own skin.

There are lots of people I wish I was more like...What I primarily envy is a piece of their personality - and I know that we are all just jumbled messes being sorted out in an individual way...

So, to make a long answer longer: what I'd like is to be more like who He created me to be. With all the fruits of the Spirit a bit closer to the surface and a heaping side of forgiveness!

  31. Happy birthday, Richella! Great question - it really gets you thinking! I'd say I mostly just want to be a better me—a more patient mother and a closer follower of Christ. But I don't mind admiring others' finer qualities, so I'll add that I'd like to be as hard working as my mother. She never complains and yet never stops working!

  32. I agree with Erica....that really got me thinking. Most of the time, I fully embrace the "me" that I am. Everynow and then, though, I will meet someone that I would like to steal a little piece of and add it to "me". If that makes any sense. Usually, those are more adventurous, outgoing, fun people. Because, I am basically a cautious, semi-introverted, careful person....but you can always have more fun, right?

  33. Happy Birthday!!!

Gosh, that's a hard question. My daughter said, "Well, you always say you wish you had Beth Moore's hair." ha ha I don't know. Just more like Jesus and a better me, maybe with Beth's hair. lol

  52. I'm so late...... But happiest of birthdays, sweet Richella!

What an interesting question. Like many others, I'd love to be the best edition of 'me' as the Lord intended me to be, more like Jesus as well as several godly women that come to mind. But the first name that came to mind was Mary. She knew what was of greatest importance - sitting at the feet of Jesus. I don't serve effectively or very humbly, I'm afraid, when I neglect this 'one thing.' I suppose that is how He intended it to be ~
