For the beauty of the earth

One of the great blessings in my life is the privilege of living in an old neighborhood.  Our house is fairly new (built in 2004), but it was built on a lot in one of Durham's older neighborhoods.  That translates into lots of trees and shrubbery.  All these photos were taken within a block of our house over the past few weeks.

Now the azaleas and dogwoods and wisteria have mostly faded, but look what I found peeking out this morning:

The first hydrangea bloom!  Later it will be brilliant blue, but isn't the subtle color of these early petals lovely?

May the miracle of springtime bring hope to our hearts!

For the beauty of the earth,
For the glory of the skies,
For the love which from our birth
Over and around us lies:
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This our sacrifice of praise!

~What's your favorite springtime scene?

  1. Hydrangeas at that color at my absolute favorite! But all of these pictures are amazing!

  2. My favorite springtime scene is the one I just witnessed this Sunday: children, in suits and white dresses, on our beautiful church grounds right after they'd just made their First Communion. I was a proud parent this year!

  3. Oh, Erin! I'll bet you were a teary-eyed parent, too! What a beautiful scene!!

  4. Gorgeous photos and I have never heard that bit of prose before. It is wonderful~ xo Diana

  5. Gorgeous photos! You are ahead of us in bloom. Our azaleas are just opening and the wisteria too. Lilacs are fading and Lily-of-the-Valley are still very pretty. Hydrangea have a ways to go as they are just filling out. Lovely post!

  6. What beautiful blooms!!! I love hydrangea...I'm holding out hope that mine will bloom this year. :) You have a lovely view!

  7. Beautiful flowers. The hydrangea is lovely. My favorite springtime scene are the tender green leaves on the trees. I just get so excited to see them after our winters.

  10. I didn't realize that you your home is in an older neighborhood. Isn't it nice to live where there are mature trees and plantings to enjoy? I love to see the Azaleas bloom in the spring.

  11. Just found you...beautiful flowers. You are so much ahead of us in Wales. I've become a follower so will look forward to seeing more of your area. Joan

  12. I love that hymn! Thanks for sharing those lovely thoughts AND the beautiful flowers in your neighborhood. They are especially appropriate since is May Day...a celebration of flowers.

  13. My favorite is the Redbud trees. They make my heart smile.

  14. What lovely pictures - my favorite spring time flowers are tulips and daffodils - Mountain Man's favorite is forysethia. I also love the hydragenda! Thanks for the sweet comments on my blog earlier - that are much appreciated.
