Springing forward

My body is a little tired from losing an hour's sleep last night, but my spirit is light because it didn't get dark here until 7:30 tonight. Welcome, sweet springtime!

St. Patrick's Day is right around the corner, so I've spruced up a little corner of my kitchen for the fun of this holiday. I had a couple of green pillar candles that I bought for pennies after Christmas, and I embellished them with a few of these:

The change is subtle, but it makes the candles a fun part of a St. Patrick's Day vignette:

And after St. Patrick's Day, the tattoos will soak right off!

My special spot to decorate for holidays is the antique dough cabinet that was my mom's. The cabinet stands right beside the table in our casual dining space. Here it is wearing all its green for this week:

Besides my embellished candles, I was thrilled to add Irish Creme Hershey's kisses to my vignette this year. Have you tried these? Heaven in a green wrapper, I think--and aren't they cute in that shamrock dish I bought on clearance at TJMaxx?

Tell me, do you decorate for St. Patrick's Day and for other little holidays? I've been away from my computer for several days, so I've fallen behind in blog-reading--please let me know if you have a St. Patrick's Day post I should see!

  1. Hi cute Richella~
I don't put up one thing for St. Pats. Is that awful? I color the milk green and make sure I have some green on that day, and that is about it. I need to start a fun St. Pats tradition...maybe a green dinner?? Love your green touches though and why did you even mention those kisses? I want some....

  2. Richella I often forget about this one but I do love your precious decor'. It looks so pretty. The candy sounds good too.

Thanks for the nice thank you note that you mailed me. You are a gifted writer and it made my day. I hope you are enjoying your goodies.

    Happy St Patty's Day!
    ~Melissa :)

  3. Richella, I had thought about you earlier and meant to pop over. Guess something came up to make me forget. Love the candles with the shamrocks added and I will have to try the kisses. Sounds yummy.

  4. Cute decorations. We don't decorate for St. Patrick's day.

  5. I like the idea of using tattoos on candles so that they can be removed after the holiday.

I have never decorated for St. Patrick's Day other than in my classroom. I didn't even do that this year. :( I'll be sure to wear green on Thursday!

  6. Cute vignette Richella.

I usually don't decorate for St Pat's. I do set at least one table, though.

    Happy Patrick's Day!

  7. Your decorations are so cute, Richella. Of course we decorate for St. Paddy's Day: in the kitchen we have a St. Patrick's Day tablecloth (vinyl for the kids) plus paper plates and cups with the same motif. We use our Irish hotplates with scenes of Irish cottages to hold our butter bell and flameless candles. In the living room we have our display on my grandmother's hummel cabinet/credenza (quite large, as you might remember). We've got an ivory runner with shamrocks embroidered on it, green pillars in crystal candleholders, faux green and white carnations with sparkly shamrocks for the young ones, plaques about Family and Blessings, and in the center a tin "sign" with an old fashioned angel and an Irish blessing. Next to her is Elizabeth's Madame Alexander Irish dancer. Lest we forget the powder rooms, we have towels embroidered with shamrocks and green soap, plus ivory paper guest towels with "Welcome" and shamrocks on them. Our slate leprechaun "Welcome" sign hangs proudly on our front door and, as always, the USA and Irish flags are above it, anchored by an old horseshoe.

You can tell we're really Irish!

  8. Irish Creme Kisses? Where did you find them?

  9. Good idea for the candles; I never would have thought of that!
I don't decorate for St Patrick's Day, but I do get Craig a card. We met on St Patrick's Day, twenty years ago this year. :)

  10. We don't do anything except maybe wear some green for St. Patrick's Day. And I've got a lot of Irish in me! I'm terrible. : )

  11. The hershey kisses sound amazing!!! I will have to run out and get some before the stores run out. Hope you had a great weekend!

  12. Love your St,Patty's day vignette. Decorating the candles is such a clever idea. How fun. I don't decorate for all the holidays, but your vignette is fabulous. Thanks for joining TTT. Hugs, Marty

  13. Hi, How fun to put the tattoos on candles. I'd never have thought of it. You have so many cute things on your dough cabinet and I can tell you're ready for St. Patrick's Day.
I did a little vignette for St. Pat's on my post, but I'll also have an Irish dinner for the family on Thursday.(not on the post). Hope you have a great week.

  14. Irish Creme Hershey's kisses??? I have never even heard of them...will be on the look out now! I like your sweet decorations very cute and I wish you a happy St Pattys day! =O)

  15. Oh, I love it all! You do such a great job with your St. Patty's stuff. I have my towel out now that I won in your Giveaway last year!!!!

  16. I am in the same boat as you....a little tired in the mornings but very happy for the extra sunshine!

Your little nook of green makes me smile:)
