Christmas on the front porch

One of my favorite rooms in this house is the first one you'll see when you drive up.  It's my front porch.

I suppose that, technically speaking, the front porch isn't a "room."  But it's a room to me--an outdoor living room.  We've been in this house nearly 10 years, and we've done more living in this room than just about any other.

Even in the cold weather, we use our porch quite a bit.  Interestingly, it's a good spot for being with other people or for being alone.

I don't do a whole lot to decorate the front porch at Christmas--a lighted tree in the corner and a few little touches of red and green are enough to make it look festive.

I like the way you can see into my dining room through the porch windows!

Perhaps the reason the porch is so special is because it's not a bit pretentious.  It's a spot that anyone can walk up to.  Even the neighborhood dogs and cats can wander up at will.  It's not really a place for doing much of anything; it's more of a spot for just being.

I like just being.  I need more of that in my life.

I have a little bit of art on the porch walls, but I've struggled to find just the right thing to hang above the sofa.  Finally, I found just what I was looking for.  Dayspring offers these cool Letterpress Blocks, and I used them to spell the word that I want to be the motto of my porch:

Relax.

That's what this outdoor living room is for.  Even (or especially) in the busy holiday season, I need a place to just be.

I'm excited to tell you that the kind folks at Dayspring will give one of you a $50 coupon for Letterpress Blocks. $50 goes a long way here!  If you'd like to enter, just take a look at the blocks here and leave me a comment to tell me what word you'd like to spell out for yourself.  You can choose individual blocks to make your own word or one of their combinations.  No hoops to jump through; just leave a comment and I'll choose a winner at random.

Do you have a special place in your home for just being?

Disclosure: These Letterpress blocks are provided by Dayspring,
but I was not compensated for this post.
My enthusiasm for this product is heartfelt!

Your porch looks like a lovely place to relax. I like all of the blocks but the ones that spell Peace are my favorite. Today we sure need more peace in our lives and our world

I would choose "Peace". I think it would be relevant any time of the year!

I love these, Richella! I would spell the word, "HARVEST" or "BLESSED" as those are two words that the Lord keeps putting on my heart for this season after a long period of sowing and toil. Your porch looks beautiful!!

I can't think of a nicer place to "just be"! It is an absolutely lovely and inviting respite' for folks or animals. An interesting tidbit of info regarding DaySpring. The original owners are the parents of the daughter-in-law of some of our best and longest friends. It is such a faith-based business! Thanks for sharing them with us.

Richella, I always love seeing how you've decorated that beautiful porch of yours! Your holiday accents are perfect! Like you, I think I would have to go with the word, "Relax". It's perfect for a porch area! Thanks so much for the chance to win!

I love the "Peace" one! We definitely need more peace in this word, and it starts at home!

I would spell "Blessed" because my mother told this to everyone, "You will be blessed".

Oh, Richella, I admit I'm so jealous of your porch space. I would choose either Blessed or Grace if I were chosen.

I just love your home and your porch. It's always a treat to see what you have done. If I were to win I would most likely select SIMPLIFY. That should be my mantra for 2015.

You already know how much I love your front porch (and your entire home). It looks so inviting decorated for Christmas and I'll bet at night this area looks especially pretty when the little tree is lit.

I'd get blocks that say "Shine" to hang in my classroom!

I swoon over that front porch of yours every time I see it. : ) I'd probably spell out "rest."

I love your porch!! I'd choose the word "Cole" as that is our family name and I could put it in our picture gallery.

How funny didn't even know this post was about the blocks and the blocks letters was the first thing I noticed. I love the word Hope.

Ooohhh!! I would love to win this!!! :) The word I would most want to see spelled out is...well, I have a choice to two. It would either be LOVE or PEACE. Thank you for your generosity! Also, I haven't read anything about Preston lately, so I am just hoping "no news is great news". (I may have missed it if you posted something.) Trusting God he is still doing well and improving. I am still praying! God bless you and your family with a Merry Christmas! I LOVE seeing your lovely home and porch. The porch is so inviting and welcoming. :) You have definitely created the look you were striving for!

Well, I think I could certainly do a lot of "just being" on your front porch, Richella! I'm always excited to see it for each season, but I like it best at Christmas-time!
