Mary, did you know?

"Mary, did you know that your baby boy
Would one day walk on water?"*

Why, yes. She knew.

She knew he would. Of course she knew. She knew because she was a mama.

And just as a mama knows how to rock a baby to sleep

and how to take a child's temperature by kissing his forehead

and how to fold fitted sheets

and how to make gravy,

a mama knows that her baby is special. Her baby is the greatest gift God has ever given.

A mama knows. She just knows.

What was different about Mary was that her baby boy was, in fact, the greatest gift God has ever given. Not just to her, but to the whole world.

And though the story of Mary and her baby has been told and re-told for 2000 years, it hasn't grown old.

That's because Mary's baby was the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

May you be blessed with the light of His precious love this Christmas.

  8. As I read your post, I thought of how you never hear about things like this happening anymore. And I know that it's all based on God's plan, but sometimes I feel like as a civilization, we've taken a step back from the way things used to be. We don't believe in miracles the way we used to, and things like walking on water seem impossible.

I've actually been reading Madeleine L'Engle's Walking on Water: Reflections on Faith and Art, and it's very insightful reading. She talks about how, even though doctors and science tells you to cover and keep sanitized the wound from a severed limb so that it can be basically patched up, that humans can actually be regenerative. It's the same concept as being able to walk on water. It was something about being connected with yourself through God, how people can do things just as Jesus did in human form - that if we were more spiritually inept we could even fly. She argued that Jesus made it to far away places in less than the amount of time than a trained runner. It was really interesting to think about.
