Glazing--not just for cabinets anymore

Raise your hand if you've read a post about glazing. You know, that process of applying a dark stain over a light color, resulting in a cool antique-looking finish. I know you have. You may have done some glazing yourself.

Well, I recently discovered that glazing is an extremely versatile technique. And it all started when I got a new dress.

I just love having a new dress. There's something so much fun about having something new and different to wear. What I do NOT love is finding the right shoes to wear with a new dress.

Don't get me wrong. I love shoes. When I was in college, I had a bit of a shoe fetish. But shoes don't love me. It's something to do with the way my feet are shaped and where my weight rests. The upshot is that most shoes hurt my feet, so shoe shopping is no longer a fun activity.

Anyway, I got a new dress made of this beautiful fabric

but I didn't have shoes to match. I did, however, have a pair of white sandals that I never wore.

I thought about all the posts I've read about glazing cabinets and furniture. And I took this

and glazed my sandals. Just like you'd glaze a piece of furniture. I painted on the polish and then used a rag to wipe it off, leaving behind just enough stain to "antique" my shoes. So now, instead of white sandals that I never wear, I have antiqued sandals that are just the right color to wear with my new dress.

What do you think?
