Good Friday

Today is Good Friday, and I find that my heart is impatient.

I want to skip ahead to Easter.  I want to revel in the glorious fact of the Resurrection. I want to sing and dance and praise God from whom all blessings flow, delighting in the sure knowledge that we will proclaim to one another: "He is risen!"

Yet today is Friday, and today I must confront the fact of the cross.

Oh, God, help.

Help me, Lord, to be willing to consider the price that was paid for my salvation.
Help me to be willing to weep at your sacrifice.
Help me to be willing to marvel at your love.

Lord, I don't want to go, but I need to go. Please, Lord, lead me to Calvary.

Lead me to Calvary: a hymn for our hearts

May this old hymn bless you today as it has blessed me:

King of my life, I crown Thee now,
Thine shall the glory be;
Lest I forget Thy thorn-crowned brow,
Lead me to Calvary.

Show me the tomb where Thou wast laid,
Tenderly mourned and wept;
Angels in robes of light arrayed
Guarded Thee whilst Thou slept.

Let me, like Mary, through the gloom,
Come with a gift to Thee;
Show to me now the empty tomb,
Lead me to Calvary.

May I be willing, Lord, to bear
Daily my cross for Thee;
Even Thy cup of grief to share,
Thou hast borne all for me.

Lest I forget Gethsemane,
Lest I forget Thine agony,
Lest I forget Thy love for me,
Lead me to Calvary.

                               --Jennie Hussey

Is there anything special you'll do today to keep your heart in tune?  I'd love to hear about it!

A blessed Good Friday to you, dear friends.

Yes, I too, would like to "skip" ahead to Easter,
but then I would be like those whom don't know Salvation at its fullest.
Last night, "Mr. Ed" and I celebrated the "Washing of The Hands (feet)"
led by our Stephen Ministers. We sang the Ancient Hymns such as The Way of The Cross Leads Home. And we heard of the betrayal that took place on that night in question.
Tonight, "Mr. Ed" and I will attend the Tenebrae Service of Darkness, lead by our Youth, and as we sing, "Were You There", as we will choose a nail and drive it into the Cross of Crucifixion. The sound is deafening and you leave knowing the Power of the One whom paid the Price for Your Sin.
Have a blessed Holy Week, dear friend!
I will sing and dance and rejoice with you on Easter Morning. . .
for He is Risen, indeed!

Love this old hymn and you have me singing. I'm reflecting and giving thanks today for our Savior and His sacrifice for me.

You have beautifully captured my exact feelings today. However, I know it is necessary to take time to reflect on the events of Good Friday in order to FULLY celebrate on Easter Sunday. Thank you for this...

My favorite Easter Hymn is When I Survey the Wondrous Cross. I imagine is blood flowing down to me and I am humbled by his grace and love. Sunday is coming.
